New trend, Red Hair!

One of the newest colors i have been seeing more often lately is red hair.  Not Dark deep red, but what some people call 'strawberry blond', auburn and just ... red.
 So new fall shows have started recently and I don't know about you but I've seen some really great hair!

I like to stay up to date on the latest trends in
      cuts,
          Colors and
                          styles.

{ I can't help if if when I'm at Six Flag standing in Line for an hour all I can think about is how the lady in front of me seriously needs a color retouch...}

So I watch every ones hair closely... both on purpose and just because I cant help it.  And I find its easier to give someone the hair they are dreaming about if there is a specific point of reference (A picture, or celebrity style in some cases. Most Hair stylists are Visual Learners}

Anyways... I have been LOVING the show Unforgettable!

I haven't stopped oogling at Poppy Montgomery's new style!!
She was once blond, on her old show Without a Trace
It seems that for her new role, shes become a beautiful red head!
I'm not always a fan of red hair, but how can you NOT love it when its done so well!!
It's even tempting to try on oneself isn't it?

What hair comebacks or new hair trends have you seen lately?

Photography Makeup- Foundations dreaded 'white cast'

Have you ever seen a picture of yourself and cringed when you noticed how white your face looked compared to your neck and arms?
{It's called a 'white cast'}
It happens to many of us who wear foundation, even celebrities. And it's not pretty!

Like many others out there you may have thought it was because your foundation was to light, only to wonder why it doesn't look that white in real life.
                             Well rest assured, its likely that your foundation simply has SPF in it.
Many purposely choose foundation with SPF because we are conscious about not wanting sun spots or wrinkles as we age [hurray for us!].  Mac studio fix is a great foundation for everyday, but because it has SPF its not picture appropriate :(
Many products say right on the front that they have SPF so you know right away.
 But Revlon sells a foundation which implies that it is for "photography."  However it says SPF 20 right on the front
                                                                                                        {So be cautious when you shop!}

Some foundations do not say that they have SPF in them but if you read the label on the back you can look for the words "Titanium Dioxide" this is a white power put in foundations to give them the SPF quality and gives off a white cast in photos {sad face}.  Now granted many foundations have this in them but to a lesser degree.  I have found that foundations with an SPF of 10 or below can be okay for pictures, especially if they have a yellow(warm) hue instead of blue(cool).
But you cannot use a mousturizer wtih SPF in it or a powder or ANYTHING with SPF under or over a foundation that already has an SPF of like 6 in it
{otherwise you might as well just wear an SPF 30 foundation}...

And stay away from mineral foundation for photography! The ingredients in those can definitely make u look like a Ghost and generally don't give enough coverage!

And Sometimes it's all about trial and error,
so before your special day take your own camera and snap some pictures with a bright flash or in direct sunlight to test it out!
Happy Hunting!

To Do or not... To Do - The Updo Trial Run Trough.

People often ask me, do I have to do an Updo run through?
Well the answer to that is No, But you should!!
Is the trial Updo a "should do?" ABSOLUTELY.

Its not a rare occasion for a bride to realize that the look she always dreamed of just isn't fitting for her dress, or personal look.  {Wouldn't you rather find this out a week or two before the wedding, and the not the morning/afternoon of...?}

Just a few of the many benefits of having a run through:
You get to talk to and help your stylist get to know you and your specific desires better.
You get to see how the style looks on you!
You can change your mind! {Yes! Yes you can!!}
You get to try out your wedding accessories. {Don't know if you want flowers? Diamonds? Tiara? This is the time to try them out!}

A run through is the place to be honest and forthcoming with your thoughts.  If I've done the front of your hair and you don't like it, Let me know and we will change it before we start to do the back.  There's no right or wrong, it's your day and we are practicing to ensure everything is perfect.

Tips for your trial run:
  1. Wear a white shirt {You can't wear your dress, so where the next best thing, a white/ivory shirt}
  2. Bring your veil and any bridal hair jewelry if you already have them
  3. Bring Pictures!!! multiple pictures are fine- if you cant decide I'll help you!
  4. Have clean dry hair {It's best to wash and dry the night before, do not flat iron}
  5. Bring a friend who knows you and can say "That's so you!" or "That's so not you" honestly.
  6. Bring your Camera!!!!

But, you don't have to have this trial, that's why it is often offered as a separate service.  In Fact some brides just don't have time for a run through.  And if you are lucky enough to already know your hairstylist well, you might just feel like you don't need it, and neither does your stylist.  But have that conversation.

FYI: If your stylist does your cut and color, it doesn't mean she knows how it holds a curl and you might need that practice!
I think these women passed on the trial Updo:

Hairspiration

For years now I have been obsessed with celebrity style.  I love to see the new trends and ideas out there.  But I'm a hairstylist... so can you blame me?

We all have a celeb at some point who we look at and say to ourselves "I really wish my hair looked like that!"
So who is your Hair Inspiration or as I say your, 'Hairspiration'?

Mine is no secret, I talk about her hair all the time.  {All the time}.  I take her picture with me when my best friend Shannon does my hair and stare at her pictures on the internet to get new style ideas.
It's Jennifer Love-Hewitt.

Here are a couple of my favorite pics:

Truth is you can't compete with celebrity hair but we can sure try!!  How am I doing? haha

So again I ask who's your hairspiration?
